I don't know if anyone has ever heard a man by the name of Corwin Kronenberg...if you ever get the chance don't miss it..or if you can get him to your school he is great ...very entertaining and has valid points on teaching responsibility etc...Super with parents as well...We used to have him come up for staff during the day and parents at night ...he was a great hit with all...Anyway I tried some of his stuff when I was a middle school principal and he had been to our school to talk to staffand parents...We started the school year with 3 days of student development...During those days We had every teacher do a class mission statement...the question was "What are you here for?" and kids(sometines we would have the kids ask their parents and bring their responses back too) would write down their answers on post its and then put them on a poster board with that heading ...Then they did the same to the question "what is the teachers job?" and then to the question "what is My Job?"...Then three groups would put things together and come up with the class mission and rules...The rules were then posted in every room for everyone to see ..They made the rules and found it much easier to follow them as a result of being involved.
